The bride of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland has a surprising new story

Jack Skellington left the building as yet haunted mansion it reopens this weekend in its classic glory — but with some surprising updates.

In a feature Los Angeles TimesDisneyland Executive Creative Director of Imagineering Kim Irvine When the park opened, the bride, one of the Haunted Mansion’s most memorable characters, talked about some major changes to bring back the mystery of her origins.

“We thought, ‘What if we changed the story to something a little original, going back to the Imaginations story of a lost bride in an attic grieving the loss of her husband,'” she told the LA Times. “It was a sad thing. It was a story about lost love.”

Gone is the fan-favorite Black Widow story that was part of the early attraction’s latest update. It depicted a bride with a curious sense of agency that added an amusingly evil element to the trip through the gaggle of her multiple husbands’ disappearing heads (disappearing because she killed them with an axe). Times are changing, as are Disney attraction elements, and Disney Experiences has chosen to return to a more mysterious look.

“The bride that used to be there was an ax murderer, and in this day and age we have to be really careful about people’s sensitivities,” Irvine said. “We were recording someone beheading their husband and it was a strange story. I know the fans, some will like it and some will say, “Oh, you changed something again.” That’s what we do. We are here for that.”

Now her lover was restored, as it seemed, to the sad existence of a disappointed bride. soulful for unknown reasons – maybe they died, or maybe they just left it on the altar – it will be interesting to see how this mythology fits into gravity. We will visit soon to better understand the bride’s new story and projection effects before making too many calls to support not only women’s rights but also women’s injustices.

The Haunted Mansion is now open during park hours at the Disneyland Resort 70th anniversary later this year.
