Trump administration plans arrests of illegal immigrants across the United States from ‘day one’

the starter trump administration is considering arresting illegal immigrants nationwide as early as day one, as top officials say they are ready to “unhandcuff” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The Wall Street Journal reported that the administration is planning a large-scale raid in Chicago on Tuesday, targeting in particular people with criminal records.

Fox News’ Jesse Watters asked incoming border czar Tom Homan about media reports of a “big raid” Tuesday in Chicago, but Homan said ICE will work nationwide.

“There will be a big raid across the country. Chicago is just one of many places. We have 24 field offices across the country. On Tuesday, ICE will finally come out and do their job. We’re going to take the handcuffs off of ICE and let them arrest foreign criminals, that’s what’s going to happen,” he said.

“What we are telling ICE is that they are going to unapologetically enforce immigration law. They are going to focus on the worst first, threats to public safety first, but no one is off the table. If they are in illegally in the country, they have a problem,” he said.

The administration has promised a massive deportation operation as well as increased border security. Officials have said they intend to target those with criminal records and convictions, but have also emphasized that they will potentially arrest anyone found to be in the United States illegally. There are currently more than 7 million people on ICE’s non-detainee file.

“The administration has been clear that we are going to start arresting people from day one, and Chicago probably won’t be the only place where arrests will be made,” a source familiar told Fox News Digital.

The administration is expected to experience significant pushback from “sanctuary” cities who refuse to allow state and local authorities to honor ICE detainers – requests that ICE be notified when illegal immigrants in custody are released.

Some Democratic officials in Chicago, as well as Massachusetts and Arizona, have said they will not cooperate with the administration.

But New York City Mayor Eric Adams met with Homan to discuss how they can work together to remove illegal immigrants who have been convicted of violent crimes.

Kristi Noem, DHS nominee testified before Congress on Friday and expressed support for the mass deportation operation and increased border security. He also said the administration will immediately end use of the CBP One app, which currently allows immigrants to obtain permission to enter the US.
