While many celebrities have received criticism for this asking for donations after being destroyed by a forest fire, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Monday they tell Our why don’t they mind the “backlash”.
“We’re very used to negative things, so it’s pretty standard,” Pratt, 41, exclusively said My Weekly on Wednesday, January 15. “If people want to send their own money to whoever they want, it’s the equivalent of buying celebrity merchandise, buying movie tickets. People can do whatever they want with their own money, and thank God there are people who want to support us and send anything.”
He added: “No one is obliged to do this and it is not a tax. People can say what they want and have a right to their opinion. But all the people sending messages, asking to send money, asking to create an Amazon wish list. … That’s their choice.”
Pratt and Montag, 38, they lost Los Angeles at home in the ongoing wildfires that devastated Southern California earlier this month. The natural disaster consumed thousands of acres and resulted in at least 25 deaths. Many residents, incl Hills alum, evacuated the city limits based on government orders.
Pratt and Montag left the area with their sons Gunner, 6, and Ryker, 2, with only a few personal belongings. After a loss most of their thingsa pair of TikTok followers created a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of Pratt and Montag.
“The first time it happened, that first day, they created a GoFundMe themselves and it still went great and so amazing,” Pratt recalled. “And then they transferred it to us. We are so grateful to them for doing this and creating the Amazon Wish List.”
Montag further emphasized that neither she nor Pratt wanted to solicit contributions.
“Then our friends. Brandon and Courtney (of TikTok) they said, “We don’t care what you say. We know people who want to donate money to you, even if it’s one donation to help you,” she said Our. “So we didn’t expect anyone to donate. I didn’t make it public, but we had so many people who wanted to give $5.”
According to GoFundMeThe Pratts have raised over $134,000 so far, and the generosity portion is just $5, but the amount doesn’t matter – the donation itself means so much more.
“People say, ‘Oh, they’re asking for money,’ That’s coffee for someone, so someone bought us coffee,” he explained. “It’s just bulky, so it might look like it’s all money, but scroll through (and you’ll see) it’s just people sending you lattes.”
“Some people that it’s a bigger number, and I thanked every single one.
Pratt further theorized that the supposed backlash came from those who falsely believe that celebrities are extremely rich.
“Until three days ago, nobody thought we were rich celebrities and it’s getting frustrating.” Like if you Google ‘Spencer,’ it literally (says) ‘Broke, no net worth,'” Pratt said Wednesday. “My net worth on this site you’re looking for over the last 15 years… was $1,000. So now our house is on firemy parents’ house burned down (and) now we’re rich celebrities, which is infuriating because the media never labeled us celebrities (and) never called us rich.”
He added: “It’s a weird connection that we’re being associated with real rich celebrities, which is great if we were… but we’re not, people know that.”
According to Pratt, it’s “just haters” calling him and Montag out.
“There’s nobody with a brain (who) thinks we’re rich celebrities.” Like it’s just hateful people trolling,” he said. “People (who) support us and have been after our lifestyle they see on social media that we are not rich celebrities. They see what we do every day. We’ve been Snapchatting our lives all day for the past 11 years. Our audience knows we’re not rich celebrities, they know we only eat Mexican food and get organic eggs, and they know we do. We shoot everything.”
In addition to GoFundMe and Amazon Wishlist donations, Pratt and Montag also have funds coming from their respective business ventures and social media uploads. Many fans bought crystals from his shop Pratt Daddy Crystals just as often streaming past Montag music and the purchase of its accompanying goods. (They’re also a member of the TikTok Creator Fund, where the app pays influencers for every popular video that gets authentic engagement, as well as a similar program on Snapchat.)
“Heidi.” C. 1 in 13 countries“I didn’t know people in Oman would support Heidi, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, I mean all these countries that I hope, God willing, she becomes a global superstar,” Pratt gushed. “We were able to go visit and hug those people who were there for us when we needed it most.”
Their former MTV colleagues Kristin Cavallari, Audrina Patridge and Lo Bosworth also filmed themselves dancing to Montag’s 2010 tracks Shallow in the respective videos.
“The overwhelming support of these people who use their platforms to help us, knowing how influential their platforms are and how important every single post is to them and their brands, and asking people who follow them to stand up for us and to help us — that’s wonderful,” Montag blurted out. “We’ve never experienced such support or kindness or appreciation, even for something so important, it was really heartwarming.”
Pratt, who noted that they were planning to rebuild your family homehe recently opened up about his financial situation in recent videos on social media.
“We put all our money into our house and our lives to build something for our kids to put their name on, and every detail we’ve taken care of year after year for the last eight years,” he said. Our. “Our house was 3,000 square feet. It is not the seat in Palisades. Everything was perfect from the stoves to the washing machines. That’s all we put our money into – and then we go eat good food in Erewhon. But our life was like, ‘Put our money in our house, eat clean food and that’s it.’ We take one trip a year to visit Heidi’s parents in Colorado.’
Pratt continued, “Any money we make from any TV opportunities or social media opportunities is just to check. So she’s all like, “Oh, Heidi and Spencer (are) these rich celebrities asking for money.” I wish I was a rich celebrity, I keep saying I’d be in Cabo eating tacos right now.”
