Glen Powell, Matthew McConaughey and other celebrities who live in Texas


The latest trend in Hollywood isn’t Hollywood at all. Some big names have said goodbye to Los Angeles in recent years and moved deep into the heart of Texas.

Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell is the latest celebrity to take the leap. After more than a decade in California, Powell settled in his home state in 2024 — and a house 30 minutes from his parents.

“I think it’s going to be good for my head, heart and soul,” Powell said The Hollywood Reporter in May.

Powell is not alone in his new, old home. Celebrities like Becca Tobin and Jamie Lynn Sigler they made star power the next “bigger in Texas” thing.

Kyle Chandler

Early in his career, Friday night lights the star lived in Los Angeles. However, the famous TV series brought him to Texas, where he has lived since 2007.

Jared Padalecki

The The Gilmores alum decided to move back to his native Texas with his wife in 2010 Genevieve Padalecki. In 2021, the couple said Architectural Digest that they loved Austin’s “slower pace”.

Jensen Ackles

The Supernatural star and wife Danneel Ackles relocated to Austin in 2014. The decision came after that welcomed their first childdaughter Justice Jay, in May 2013. (The couple also have twins, Zeppelin Bram and Arrow Rhodes, born in December 2016.)

Matthew McConaughey

The True detective star, born in Uvalda, is one of Texas’ most notable exports. In 2014, McConaughey moved his family – wife Camila Alves and three children – to Austin.

Zachary Levi

Former Chuck the actor sold his California home in 2017 to move to Austin.

James Van Der Beek

The Dawson’s Creek alum officially moved to Texas in 2020 and moved his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beekand their six children to Austin.

Odette Annable

The Walker actress and husband Dave Annable decided to move to Austin in September 2020.

“It’s absolutely bittersweet to leave LA for the moment, but it’s also crazy exciting and just what my family needs,” the actress shared via Instagram at the time.

Chris Harrison

Former Bachelor host and now wife Lauren Winter moved south to Austin in 2020.

The Sopranos alum moved to Austin with her husband in March 2021 Dykstra cutter and their two sons.

“I almost feel more connected to my craft and why I love acting,” she said The New York Times in June 2021 about her move. “When the calls come, it’s a lovely surprise. I’m still on point and I’m still an entrepreneur and it’s still my career, but I don’t feel the pressure around it because we stood up for ourselves and made decisions for our families.”

The Festivity alum moved to Austin with her husband Zach Martin around the same time as longtime friend Sigler.

The Sunset for sale alum, who was born in Dallas, revealed in January 2025 that she and her son relocated to Texas after her breakup with her estranged husband Christian Richard.

“I’m really, really grateful to live here,” Quinn said Peopleand added that she was happy to be “close” to family. “I have a sister who lives really close to me and my son has a cousin. So it’s really something I needed, as opposed to the chaos when I was in Los Angeles.”
