WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump’s incoming “emperor” Tom Homan said on Saturday that a crackdown on illegal U.S. immigrants would begin next week, and showed that it will include several cities.
Asked on Fox News if eviction raids will be launched in more cities, including Chicago, Homan said, “I wouldn’t classify them as raids.
Asked how the move would be received by so-called sanctuary cities, which have pledged not to use city resources for federal immigration enforcement, Homan suggested that the incoming Trump administration would will lead to city jails.
“We want to catch the bad guy in the safety and security of the county jail.”
A source told Reuters on Friday that New York and Miami would be considered. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement would conduct a week-long operation in Chicago with hundreds of agents.
Homan, a former ICE director, said the agency is planning its operations carefully.
“They (ICE raiders) will know who’s in the family, including the children… Every aspect of this operation is well-planned, and the entire team will be there for officer safety reasons.”
Asked when Trump’s promised mass deportation flights would begin next week, Homan was vague.
“We have over 700,000 illegal immigrants in the United States with the repeal of the executive order. President Trump has been clear from day one … he’s going to keep the border and he’s going to take action to dismiss.”
