Brian Baumgartner is excited about the upcoming spinoff Office — but wanted to clear up the misconception that the OG cast is returning for a new installment.
“Everything I’ve heard about it sounds amazing. I have no doubt the fans will enjoy it,” Baumgartner, 52, exclusively said My Weekly while encourage his participation in the Hilton Grand Vacations 2025 Tournament of Champions later this month. “I wish the message had been a little clearer about what it was.
Baumgartner noted that the creator Greg Daniels tried to clarify that the project is not a revival, adding, “Greg really tried hard to get it out there. The thing that’s difficult is that there are still people who believe we’re going to go back to Dunder Mifflin in the next few months. That’s definitely not happening.”
While Baumgartner is excited for the spinoffhe hoped that viewers would know that the series would focus on an entirely new location and set of characters.
“Michael Koman, who is the co-creator of Greg is a really smart guy and Greg is a genius. He was so reserved when he entered this world because he doesn’t want to upset the fans,” the actor continued. “However, I think at some point the gang will get back together. I don’t think we’ll do another nine, but I think we’ll get back together.”
He added: “That we feel like it – internally, from us. And when Greg has an idea that he thinks is worthy, then it sounds like most people are game to get back together.”
NBC’s hit sitcom, which aired from 2005 to 2013centered on the lives of employees at the offices of the paper company Dunder Mifflin in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Office Baumgartner played Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson, Angela Kinsey, BJ Novak, Melora Hardin, Kate Flannery and more familiar faces.
Here it is a reboot or refresh was requested from Office it has come to an end. Daniels found a way to expand the franchise by developing an original series that would follow the same mockumentary format while being set in the same universe.
According to the logline, a documentary crew “that immortalized the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin is looking for a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and a publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.” The current rumored title for the Peacock series is Paper but no official name was announced still.
Daniels previously clarified that while the new installment is “set in the same universe” as the original is not considered a reboot or revival.
“I don’t like to think of anything as a reboot. Because I feel like we ended the story beautifully. The characters were closed,” he said TheWrap in November 2023. “I would never want to do the same show again with a different cast because I think we have the luckiest cast, the best cast on television to do that show. So the idea of a reboot is not interesting.”
Just like the devoted fans OfficeBaumgartner is on the edge of his seat waiting for more information about the Peacock series. But for now, Baumgartner’s attention shifted to personal accomplishments such as his participation in the Hilton Grand Vacations 2025 Tournament of Champions later this month.
“As a competitive person – and as someone who’s been involved in sports all my life – this is a unique experience for me in the last 15 to 20 years of doing this. To participate in a professional tournament where I am well aware that I have no chance of winning,” he joked. “I finally know why I’m there. It’s about having a good time and trying to make sure the people watching have a good time competing. I take it seriously. And I hope I hit some good shots that surprised the people watching.”
