As for the social media app of the same name, the Supreme Court upheld the US government’s decision the proposed ban on TikTokand the app’s owners, ByteDance, pledged to disable the app for users in the United States starting at midnight on Sunday, January 19.
The Act to Protect Americans from Foreign Opponents of Controlled Apps was drafted after Congress raised concerns about espionage on China’s behalf by ByteDance. The company said it would remove TikTok from smartphone app stores. The parent company explained later on Friday that it would suspend services and “go dark” unless the US assured Apple and Google that they would not be penalized for hosting and distributing TikTok.
The loss of the app will have a major impact on the content creators and influencers who earn through the app Fund for TikTok creatorsas well as those who earn through brand sponsorships and selling goods on the platform.
