In a previous interview with Fox News Digital, Rener Gracie, chief jiu-jitsu instructor at Gracie University in California, highlighted that the only truly reliable skills are those that have been “mastered in muscle memory.”
This occurs through extensive practice of self-defense methods such as Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which “are based on leverage and do not depend on you having a physical advantage over the subject,” he noted.
“Having these skills makes you less likely to fight, not more likely.”
“And by that I mean strength, speed, power and size, because in almost all cases, the attacker will target someone who he feels is physically inferior to him.”
