House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., faced an old clip of himself during an interview Sunday in which he declared that President Biden was the best candidate to run against the president. elected Donald Trump.

“What do you say to Americans who believe they were misled by you and other top Democrats?” NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Jeffires after showing her a clip of himself from February 2024 on “The View” saying that Biden was “definitely the strongest candidate” to run against the now president-elect.

“Well, Joe Biden was the sitting president at the time. He was the nominee at the time, and I supported him at the time, and that was the right thing to do, based on the sitting president making the decision that he was going to run,” Jeffries said, responding to the clip.

Jeffries added that he wanted to look forward, rather than back, and focus on delivering for Americans after Trump’s victory.

Welker continued to press: “Do you think you had a responsibility to be more forthcoming about what you had seen behind closed doors regarding President Biden?”

“What I saw behind closed doors was a president who was working hard to get things done that would deliver for the American people on infrastructure, to reduce the high price of life-saving prescription drugs, to bring back America’s national manufacturing jobs,” Jeffries responded.

The NBC News anchor also confronted Senator Chuck Schumer, DY, with a clip of himself insisting that concerns about Biden’s mental acuity were “right-wing propaganda.”

“His mental acuity is excellent. He’s fine. It’s as good as it has been over the years. All this right-wing propaganda that his mental acuity has decreased is wrong,” Schumer declared in February 2024.

Asked what he would say to Americans who believe they were misled by top Democrats, Schumer said: “We didn’t.” Let’s look at President Biden. He has had an incredible record. “The legislation we passed, one of the largest sets of legislation since Lyndon Johnson’s great partnership, includes 235 judges, a record, and he is a patriot.”

Welker then asked Schumer if he was confident Biden could have served a second term.
