Rivian has released a new software update for its cars that brings long-awaited apps to the in-car experience. Owners who upgrade to an R1S SUV or R1T pickup can now enjoy YouTube (while in park) or SiriusXM (with subscription).
The company is also adding Google Cast functionality. It can also only be used when parked, but Rivian says the new feature will allow owners to stream more than 3,000 streaming or other apps to the center console screen.
The new additions should add a nice quality of life for long charging sessions – something Rivian is working on improving as well. it rolls new “third space” type charging stations. The company also continues to improve the road experience. The update, announced by the company on Wednesday, allows owners of new “Gen 2” Rivians to program the cabin climate and also offers an improved highway assistance function.
