Former bachelor Trista Sutter reflects the changes with the franchise since she was in charge in 2003.

“I’m very grateful that there was no social media when I was on them Bachelor and Bachelor” said Sutter, 52 TV Insider in an interview published on Sunday, January 19. “We had bulletin boards and I was a glutton for punishment and I went to read them. There were trolls back then, but they just couldn’t get to you directly. You had to read what their comments were on the message boards. I did it and it wasn’t fun.”

She continued: “I would have a really hard time. I’m really sensitive and would have a really hard time with things that people would come up to me and say I’m sure about. People have dealt with death threats from the show just by being themselves and trying to find love. It’s a little crazy. It has completely changed.”

More than two decades since finding The One in Ryan SutterTrista continues to watch ABC’s hit reality show. (Trista and Ryan, now 50, he got engaged during Bachelor season 1 and tied the knot in 2003. They have a son, Maxwell, 16, and a daughter, Blakesley, 15.

“I feel like the premise of the show is still why I watch, which is for people to find love in a very unconventional way,” Trista said. “That will never change for me. When we moved to Colorado and started our family, it was a conscious decision to create a quieter life away from the wild ride that took place around and after the wedding. I loved our life and raising our children in the mountains and now we’re in Denver.”

As Trista tried it recently another reality show with Special Forces: The World’s Toughest TestRyan sparked fears their marriage was in tatters when he shared a series of cryptic posts on social media.

Trista, who was away filming the Fox reality show when the rumors swirled, failed to address the speculation surrounding their relationship or explain why she was gone — until her casting was revealed.

“Everyone is quick to assume the worst,” Trista said exclusively My Weekly about the rumors surrounding her marriage. “I think it’s human nature, honestly. I didn’t know what happened to the world. I’m like, ‘You’ve all lost your minds.’ Sorry, but why the huge fuss about it?”

Trista recalled her phone being flooded with text messages from affected loved ones. “I’ve had people text me all the time, ‘Are you OK? What’s going on? Are you having a nervous breakdown? Are you divorced? Are you going through a trial breakup? What’s going on?'” Trista said. “I’m like, ‘No, no, no, no, no to all that stuff. You’ll find out why and it will all make sense.”

Despite the chaos that ensued, Trista put a positive spin on the rumors. “I have to say it. i felt good that people actually cared.” said Trista. “We have been married for 21 years. That show was a really long time ago, and the fact that people still care about it was very humbling and very nice to me, even though it was very messy.”
