Trump cancels Biden’s effort to ban oil drilling off US coast, Arctic By Reuters

(Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday canceling former President Joe Biden’s efforts to ban oil drilling in the Arctic and large areas off the U.S. coast, according to the White House. .

Biden this month blocked new oil and gas development off many US coasts before Trump took office.

Biden’s move was considered highly symbolic, as it would not affect the areas where oil and gas development is ongoing, and especially covered areas where the drillers were not have significant prospects, including in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

Trump also rescinded a 2023 memo that banned oil drilling in 16 million hectares (6.5 million acres) of the Arctic, the White House announced.

The oil drilling ban was one of several actions taken by Biden that were rescinded by Trump on his first day in office.
