Nina Dobrev reflects on the devastation caused by the wildfires in Los Angeles — and encourages her fans to do the same.
“Hello everyone. It’s been so tragic in Los Angeles recently,” Dobrev, 36, said on Sunday, Nov. Instagram post. “I was absolutely sick to my stomach from all the destruction and devastation these fires caused and displaced so many families.” My heart is broken for all the people affected by these fires.”
Dobrev explained that she was among the tens of thousands of people who evacuated their homes due to wildfires that started earlier this month. Dobrev left home on January 9, when she celebrated her 36th birthday.
“Definitely not how I planned to spend my birthday,” Dobrev said. “But I wanted to make this video to thank everyone for the birthday wishes and ask for it. I don’t know about you, but I feel survivor’s guilt.”
Dobrev noted that her home was “close to one of the fires” but she “made it” in the end. She added: “But so many others were not so lucky.”
Dobrev urged her followers to donate, linking a chart in her bio that highlights the GoFundMe links of “many families” who lost their homes.
“What people really need right now is financial help to help them get back on their feet and start rebuilding their lives and their homes,” she said. “The Pacific Palisades, especially the Altadena-Pasadena community, needs it the most.”
For her birthday, Dobrev took to the GoFundMe page and said she would “love it” if her followers could make the same gesture — small or large donations.
“I put myself in the shoes of all these people whose houses burned down to the ground with their possessions, their memories, their everything that made them feel safe in this world, and their insurance dropped them,” Dobrev said. “For some of them, the level of tragedy is immeasurable and really hard to fathom. They lost everything.”
Dobrev said her heart broke into “a million pieces” for the families. affected by fires. Dobrev closed her video by sharing that her thoughts were with those affected, saying, “My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.”
“The devastation in LA is immeasurable and heartbreaking 💔 This is my plea for help. For my birthday this year, all I want is for you to help a family in need,” Dobrev captioned her post. “I have contributed families to the Google Doc that is linked in my bio. If you’ve seen all the pictures and videos online and want to help out too, please consider donating too. There is a dedicated section for black families and other historically marginalized groups in the Altadena community who have been hit particularly hard.
She concluded: “Thank you for your support always, but especially now. The road to recovery and healing for so many families who have lost everything begins now and will be a long one… ❤️🩹 #LosAngelesfires.”
