Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall opens up about her brief romance with Harry Styles.
While Thirlwall, 32, won the British version The X Factor in 2011 as a member of Little Mix, before auditioning in 2010, the same year Styles, 30, auditioned as a solo artist and went on to form One Direction.
“I think we went on one date…we were like 16,” Thirlwall recalled during an interview on Monday 20th. “The Louis Theroux Podcast.”
“He was just put in the band. It was really funny because we kept in touch and then when they went to the live shows he didn’t text me back and I thought, ‘That’s it. He’s gone. He did it,” the “Angel of My Dreams” singer continued.
One Direction may have put their music together on hiatus, but band members Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have kept the game going when it comes to romance. Thirlwall said she and Styles ran into each other the following year The X Factor when she competed on the show with Little Mix. “I saw him in the room after (the show) and he said, ‘I’m really sorry I ignored you.’
Host Louis Theroux he joined in, “Did he scare you?” Thirlwall replied with a laugh, “Yes.”
However, Thirlwall now sees the funny side of things.
“But I was so young it didn’t really matter,” she said.
Thirlwall continued the compliment “Watermelon Sugar” singer.adding: “He was always very, very nice. He got to where he is because he’s very talented and he’s very nice.”
While Thirlwall and Styles didn’t go that far, her bandmate, Perrie Edwardsdated Styles’ bandmate, Zayn Malikfor four years. The couple got engaged in 2013 but called it off in August 2015.

“I was in a relationship from 17 to 21,” Malik said of his relationship with Edwards in a May 2024 interview Nylon. “I was engaged. I didn’t know anything at the time. I thought so because I was 21. I could legally do everything, but I didn’t know s–t.”
“My parents were old school, so I never brought a girlfriend home or anything,” he added. “When I got the chance to do it, I jumped right in two feet and said to myself, ‘I’m going to have a girlfriend and she’s going to live with me. That makes me a grown man.”
After their division, Malik went on with Gigi Hadidwith whom he shares daughter Khai, 4. (The couple split in October 2021.) Edwards shares son Axel, 3with a football player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
