Scarlett JohanssonThe childhood dream of being a morning show host is one that few people close to her knew she had.
“I can’t believe it,” exclaimed the 40-year-old actress as she entered the game Jenna Bush Hager‘s cohost on the Tuesday, January 21 episode of the show Today with Jenna and friends. “More importantly, everyone in my life can’t believe it. … People who knew me very well said, ‘You’re living your dream. I’m so happy for you.” People who didn’t know me that well were like, ‘What’s going on? Are you okay?'”
Johansson noted that as a child she would look at herself “in the mirror with a bottle of shampoo and I would say, ‘Good morning, everyone, and I hope you had a great weekend.’ What’s going on in your forest?’ All that stuff.”
While Johansson wished to be a Today host Bush Hager, 43, wished otherwise. “Your life was my dream. I wanted to be a star on Broadway, but I wasn’t talented,” she told Johansson, who had previously appeared on Broadway in plays. View From The Bridge and A cat on a hot tin roof. “I wasn’t talented. First of all, I can’t sing, but my mom would push me to try Les Misérables even though I was such a chubby Texas (baby.)… Not my vibe.”
Johansson is the fifth celebrity to join Bush Hager Jenna and friends following Hoda Kotb‘with step out of Today earlier this month. Taraji P. Henson, Eva Longoria, Keke Palmer and Michelle Buteau took upon himself cohosting obligations last week, while Johansson will sit alongside Bush Hager until Friday, January 24.
To celebrate Johansson’s first day in the role, she and Bush Hager met through a game of “Best Friends Five”. When asked if she is a morning bird or a night owl, Johansson revealed that her nocturnal tendencies made it difficult for her to get up that morning.
“My phone was silent, which was really cool. I barely blinked last night because I was like, ‘Oh my God. My alarm won’t go off,” she explained. “And then at some point I thought, ‘I’ve got to rest,’ so I rested a little bit. And then I woke up peeing and I was (like), ‘Why is it daylight outside?’ And this is how I woke up this morning, so I rushed here. But I’m a night owl and a morning bird because I have two kids and that’s how it goes.”
While answering whether they wanted to receive a flirty text or love notes, Johansson got jealous when Bush Hager told her husband: Henry Hager“sometimes” he writes his romantic letters. “I feel dazed,” she joked, poking fun at her husband, Colin Jost.
While Bush Hager said they might talk to Jost, 42, about it, Johansson added, “I’m not even going to tell you what emojis I’m getting.” (The couple, who married in 2020, have a daughter, Rose, 10, and a son, Cosmo (3).
Johansson had to fulfill it before Today hosting a dream by joining Al Roker for his weather report after a Interview from November 2024 at the exhibition. “I was directed by Scarlett Johansson,” Roker, 70, said at the time. After hugging the meteorologist, Johansson asked, “Did I get the job?”
