On Wednesday, Samsung revealed how SmartThingsits smart home platform will introduce AI features that allow users to simplify their daily lives through environmental sensing technology and generative artificial intelligence. Horse Samsung Unpacked 2025the company said its upcoming “Home AI” features will gather insights from a user’s daily life to create personalized experiences.
Samsung shared that SmartThings will use advanced sensor technology such as millimeter wave (mmWave) and sound sensor devices in users’ homes to understand customers’ daily activities, such as cooking or sleeping, and create an ideal environment.
This is an ambitious vision. For example, if a user is exercising, Samsung said, SmartThings will be able to detect the type of exercise and guide the person in their form. If a user is drying their hair, SmartThings will detect the sound and motion of the movement and activate the person’s robot vacuum to clean up the props that have fallen to the floor.
Or, SmartThings can activate the user’s air purifier to remove allergens from the air after it senses that the user’s miniature pinscher has thrown up on the couch.
As for its generative artificial intelligence technology, SmartThings will apparently have a deeper understanding of the user’s home environment and allow for further personalization.
For example, users will be able to take pictures of objects such as chairs, so that Samsung’s Map View technology – which allows someone to create a 3D map of their home to find and control the various devices in it – can provide more intuitive interactions. SmartThings can, for example, adjust a user’s lighting or temperature settings based on their proximity to certain areas or objects.
The Company states that all data will be stored locally on the user’s network and that none of the individual’s data will be stored in the cloud or made available to third parties without the consent of the individual.
Samsung says these updates will roll out in 2025 and 2026.
