A second film is on the way It’s bad the train never slows down – and now John M. Chu‘s hit movie influenced ticket sales for the main Broadway feature. Not only that, but now the stage production of the musical has introduced the first “Black Alphabet”.
Beginning on March 4th, fans of the musical and fans of the film who go to see the play live on Broadway will witness Lensia Kebede’s debut as Elphaba Thropp in the Wicked Witch of the West story.
Kebede will be the first full-time main cast member who is a black woman to play the role of Elphaba on Broadway. Saycon Sengbloh and Brandi Massey have previously played the role of Elphaba in the production, and black performers have similarly portrayed her full time in the show’s British home in London’s West End.
This casting has been a long time coming and watching Cynthia Erivo Universal Pictures takes the character of the film as revealing.
It used to be a Broadway show Brittney Johnson As the first Black woman to play Glinda in 2022; he has been an assistant for this role since 2019.
Joining the cast opposite Kebede in 2025 is Allie Trimm, who takes over the role famous Ariana Grande’s role in the 2024 film. Kebede runs away as Angelica Schuyler in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s film Hamilton She will play Elphaba, while Trimm will step into the role after a special standby for Glinda since 2021.
