Billy Ray Cyrus he enjoyed performing at the inaugural Liberty Ball—no matter what the critics said.
“This was the funnest part of the Liberty Ball! And if you didn’t see it… you just had to be there,” Cyrus, 63, wrote. Instagram on Wednesday, Jan. 22, he shared footage from the Fox News broadcast of the event before quoting his song “Achy Breaky Heart” and adding, “I just don’t think you get it.”
Cyrus with caption the Liberty Ball on Monday, January 20, which was one of the gala parties in his honor President Donald Trump sworn in to become the 47th Commander-in-Chief.
After technical difficulties, he ended his set with an acoustic rendition of his 1992 hit “Achy Breaky Heart”.
“Check? Is anyone awake? Do you want me to sing more or do you want me to just get off the stage?” he said during the broadcast. “In life, when you have technical difficulties, you just have to keep going, or as President Trump would say, you have to fight.”
Cyrus was among a star-studded line-up of musicians who performed at one of the inauguration celebrations, having previously applauded the backlash.
“I would not pass up the honor of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar and monitors were working or not,” he said in a statement. People on Tuesday, January 21. “I was there because I was invited by President Donald J. Trump. I had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night.”
He added: “What I’ve learned over the years is when a producer says, ‘Go for it,’ you’re going to entertain people, even if the equipment goes to hell. I was there for the people and we enjoyed it. That’s called rock n roll!!!”
Another performer throughout the inauguration events included in the price Starring: Carrie Underwood, Christopher Macchio, Lee Greenwood, Jason Aldean, Gavin DeGraw, Rascal Flatts, Parker McCollum, Kid Rock, Village People and Liberty University Praise Choir.
The 41-year-old Underwood also defended accepting the inaugural invitation.
“I love our country and I am honored to be asked to sing at the inauguration and be a small part of this historic event,” she said in a statement earlier this month. “Humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in a spirit of unity and look to the future.”
Underwood belted “America the Beautiful” a cappella after Trump’s inauguration speech after technical difficulties.
“If you know the words, help me,” she said at the time.
The American Idol the judge was originally designed to accompany the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.
