Jinger Duggar opened up about what it was like following her family’s modest dress code for a TLC group photo shoot.
“Getting everyone into something they wanted to wear was always a little bit of a challenge,” Duggar, 31, said on the Jan. 22 episode of her and her husband’s. Jeremy Vuolo‘with self-titled podcast. “I was always a bit nervous because I didn’t know what wardrobe they were going to choose. So that’s something I was hesitant to go into.’
While Duggar, who is one of the Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar‘s children, played alongside his family on 19 Children and countingoffspring participated in promotional photo shoots alongside some of TLC’s other biggest shows at the time, including Sister’s Wives, Little people, big world, 90 Day Fiancé and others.
Jinger explained that during filming, she would provide the wardrobe team with the clothes she selected for the reality stars. According to Jinger, they would “try to pick things that they thought you would usually pick yourself.”
“They had a whole Duggar wardrobe. So it was more like Old Navy, there was probably some WalMart clothing, very cool, very Duggar chic,” she reflected. “They would have our entire wardrobe and then they would have someone else next to them.
While there were plenty of options to choose from, Jinger claimed that size options would vary. She recalled one instance where a dress was “two sizes too big” and she needed to pin it to fit. The wardrobe team would also hide their makeshift tailoring attempts by having Jinger wear a jacket over the dress.
Jinger also said the wardrobe team had information sheets for her and her family that included their photos and size information. However, there were some stylists who didn’t know about it The Duggar Family Rule that women could not wear trousers. (Jinger later she added trousers to her wardrobe after tying the knot with Vuolo in 2016.)
“A few of them didn’t realize we weren’t wearing pants,” she said, but noted that the network never tried to make her wear something that wasn’t her style.
Jinger also claimed that the wardrobe would return the clothes after the photo shoot. However, if someone wanted to keep some clothes, they would sometimes “keep clothes for you depending on the price”.
While the fashion aspect of the shoot was a struggle for Jinger, she enjoyed seeing other members of the network that she wouldn’t normally want to. Jinger likened the gathering of other acts to a “circus”
“Most of the time we were separated, they tried to give you your own space so you wouldn’t bump into other people,” she reflected. “You could see people you knew in your hair and makeup or in your closet or walking out of the tent.”
Jinger started her reality TV show in 2008 when 19 Children and counting the first premiere (with the original title, 17 Children and counting). After 19 Children and counting ended in 2015, Jinger joined the spinoff series, Counting onwhich lasted until 2020.
