Kelly Stafford he preached unity in defense Carrie UnderwoodControversial performance in Donald TrumpPresidential Inauguration.
Underwood, 41, sang “America the Beautiful” at the event on Monday, Jan. 20 — a cappella, thanks to technical issues no less — that earned some backlash from certain sectors of the country singer’s fan base.
After Stafford’s “Morning After” Podcast Hank Winchestersaid Americans should “put politics aside” and accept invitations to the White House regardless of who is in office, Stafford echoed his sentiment.
“I’m with you,” Stafford, wife of the Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Staffordsaid on episode on Thursday, January 23. “We have to respect the power we have. Once they’re there, you can’t change it. You just have to pray that they make the right decisions for this country. You have to support them in any way you can, even if you don’t like them. You just have to get it done by next semester and then we’ll be off again.”
She added: “People are on point. It is what it is.”
When it comes to political arguments, Kelly simply says, “I don’t really care.”
“I have a sister that I love more than life,” Kelly explained. “I would do anything for her, she’s one of my favorite people. She’s my favorite girl I know. She is very passionate about the president he is right now. He sends me things and I don’t really click on them because it changes my algorithm.”
Kelly argued that Underwood’s performance did not necessarily indicate any particular political leanings American Idol winner.
“I like that I didn’t know her stance on politics,” Kelly said. “I feel like it’s something wonderful.
In a statement released before her appearance, Underwood stopped short of endorsing any politician or political party in explaining her decision to attend.
“I love our country and I’m honored to be asked to sing at the inauguration and be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood said. “Humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in a spirit of unity and look to the future.”
As for the rest of the inauguration, Kelly said she only caught bits and pieces because she was traveling home from her husband’s playoff game against the Eagles in Philadelphia on Sunday — but she had her eye on the biggest sartorial moments.
“I saw the clothes,” Kelly said. “When Melania (Trump) left with the hat. You know I love hats. I thought it was great.”
Kelly theorized that Melania was “trying to cover her face a little bit, so if something was said, you couldn’t react.
