On Thursday, Raleigh announced its latest educational product at the NAAM audio show in Anaheim. The simply named Roli Piano builds on the likes of the Roli Airwave and Piano M, more than doubling the latter’s key count to 49.
The piano is similar in many ways to its predecessor, with MIDI keys that light up and sync with an instruction program read on a phone or tablet. Meanwhile, Airwave adds hand tracking to the mix by creating gesture-based sounds.
The new instrument costs $599, more than double the Piano M’s current price of $249. The London-based music tech startup is offering the larger model for $399 for a limited-time “super early bird special.”
And of course, it wouldn’t be a product launch in 2025 without mentioning generative artificial intelligence. It comes via the newly announced Piano AI Assistant, which the company calls “the first step in using generative artificial intelligence to make learning to play easier, more intuitive and more fun than ever before.”
Presented as part of a piano introduction, the Assistant aims to provide additional instruction while adding music theory to the mix.
Over the past year, the Piano line has become a major focus for Raleigh. For a company filing for bankruptcy in 2021, it makes sense to focus on educational products. Products like Seaboard and Blocks have always been cool and smart, but they have held their own in the music world.
Music education, on the other hand, offers huge market potential for the smaller equipment manufacturer.
