Ten films are vying for the biggest prize at the 97th Academy Awards, which will air Sunday, March 2 on ABC. Nominations for this year’s ceremony were announced on Thursday, January 23 with Emilia Perez tops the list thanks to a total of 13 nods and follows Brutalist and Evil with 10
All three films also received acting nominations for several of their stars, incl Karla Sofia Gascón and Cynthia Erivo for best actress in a leading role, Zoe Saldana and Ariana Grande for Best Supporting Actress and Adrien Brody for best actor in a leading role.
Dune: Part Two and Nickel Boys are the only two Best Picture nominees to not receive any acting nominations. Meanwhile, top movie stars such as Mike Madison and Demi Moore became the first Oscar nominees for their performances in Anora and Substancerespectively

‘Anora’
The film follows Madison’s titular sex worker who falls hard and fast for the son of a Russian oligarch, Ivan (Mark Eydelstein). When Ivan’s parents head to the US to have their marriage annulled, their romance turns out to be anything but a fairy tale.

Brody plays László Tóth, a Hungarian-Jewish architect and Holocaust survivor who travels to the US to start a new life. Lászl and his family’s life changes in many ways – good and not so good – after he accepts a job for the wealthy Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pearce).

The biographical film captures the early days Bob Dylan‘s (Timothée Chalamet) career that culminated in his iconic performance on electric guitar at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.
