Car plows into crowd at German Christmas market, reports say

A car crashed into a crowd at a Christmas market in eastern Germany, local media report.

According to German public broadcaster MDR, in the incident in Magdeburg at least one person was killed and several were injured.

The alleged driver of the car has also been detained, MDR said, citing a government spokesman.

A video on social media shows several people lying on the ground and emergency services present.

According to local authorities, an “extensive police operation” is underway and the market was closed.
