Former Habén of Hamas Amit Saussana is sharing more details about his time in captivity, and says that there was another hostage that was instrumental in his survival. Liri Albag, one of the FDI soldiers that was kidnapped on October 7, “saved” Soussana.
Speaking on Israeli television, Saussana reminded its captors that they tied and beat her, demanding that she admitted to being in the defense forces of Israel (FDI). Saussana says that his hands and feet were tied, and was beaten with a stick before one of the captors pointed a gun and said: “You have 40 minutes to tell us the truth, or else I kill you.”

Companion Hosta Albag could apparently convince its captors that Soussana was not in the army. Saussana who calls Albag “something special, a force”, he believes that this act saved his life.
“I said when he returned: ‘I don’t know if they would have killed me or not; as far as I am, you saved my life,” Saussana said in the interview.
Hamas terrorists kidnapped Soussana from her home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza during the Brutal the attacks of October 7. She was forced to walk barefoot in Pajama from her house in flames to the border of Gaza, being beaten on the road. Saussana fought against her kidnappers in what was called “the battle of my life”, trying to stop them with the hope that the IDF would rescue it before it was dragged to Gaza.
Saussana was released from Gaza in November 2023 after 55 days in captivity as part of Israel’s first hostage agreement with Hamas.

In March 2024, Soussana became the first Israeli woman to speak publicly about being sexually assaulted while she was in Hamas’s captivity. He recalled the horrible incident in an interview with the New York Times. Soussana later testified Before the UN Security Council in October 2024 about their experience.
During his captivity, Soussana was chained by his ankle, unable to move. “I had to ask permission to use the bath,” he explained, detailing his experience. “In that house, Hamas’ terrorist sexually assaulted me that he had kept me.”
She described the assault, saying: “He forced me to go to the shower and entered the room, his gun pointed to me. He breathed a lot and had a monstrous beast face.” She remembered her intrusive interrogation while he sat next to her underwear, lifting her and touching her. “I knew exactly what I was planning to do and yet I couldn’t do anything to avoid it. I was completely helpless.”
Saussana said that after the assault it was not “allowed to cry or be sad.” He remembered feeling isolated and “forced to act friendly to the person who had just attacked me sexually.”
