The avalanche in French Alps kills the Brazilian-Portuguese skier

A man died in an “very large” avalanche in the French Alps on Tuesday, local officials confirmed.

The body of the national dual of the Brazilian port was found in the complex of Les Grands Montets at the foot of Mont Blanc, said rescuers.

The avalanche, which occurred around 4:35 p.m. local time (15:35 GMT), had 1 km (0.6 miles) long and 400 m wide.

First it was reported that the victim was British, but the Public Prosecutor and Gendarmerie squad of Chamonix High Mountain (PGHM) told the BBC on Wednesday that this had been incorrect.

The avalanche fell into an off -track of Les Grands Montets, where the 55 -year -old man had been skiing.

It was seen by a skiing patrol on its way to close the area to the public, due to very poor conditions.

The rescue teams attended the scene, where the skier was declared dead.

PGHM told the BBC that the man’s family had been informed. He added that he had not received reports from more victims.

The high quality prefecture reminded the skiers and hikers who had caution and follow the guide in the middle of the high risk of avalanche in January.
