Promoter Oscar De La Hoya taps Tyson Fury to avenge his loss to WBA, WBC and WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk tonight. live on DAZNpredicting a knockout victory for the Gypsy King in Riyadh.
De La Hoya says he sees something in Fury’s (34-1-1, 24 KOs) eyes that makes him think he’s going to win. He feels Fury, 36, was not mentally present for his 12-round split decision loss to Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) earlier this year on May 18.
Can Fury avenge his loss?
Oscar believes the weight advantage and 55-pound power of former WBC heavyweight champion Fury will be too much for the 226-pound Usyk, who began his career at cruiserweight.
Fury weighed 281 pounds at Friday’s weigh-in. Although Fury’s weight is likely to be five to six pounds lighter due to his weight in a leather jacket, he will still be more than 40 pounds heavier than Usyk tonight.
One area De La Hoya didn’t mention was Fury’s fragile punch resistance. Usyk hurt him in the ninth round, taking 20 consecutive headshots before being saved by the well-meaning referee, who gave him a strange eight count.
That was only seven months ago, and that’s not enough time for Fury’s head to recover from what he endured in that assault. If Usyk taps Fury on the chin, he may leave as before. There won’t be that referee to save him this time with another useful eight count.
Oscar foresees fury KO
“I love Tyson Fury. I see something in his eyes. I see something in his spirit, and I just think that the first fight they had, I don’t think Tyson was here (mentally there),” Oscar De La Hoya told Fighthype. YouTube channel, talking about the first match between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk on May 18.
“This time I see him focused, I see him determined and I could see him knocking out Usyk,” De La Hoya continued. “I think it’s a good thing. A 50-pound difference is a huge advantage,” Oscar said about Fury being 55 pounds heavier than Usyk during the weigh-in.
“I think if Tyson hits the perfect punch, Usyk will go down, and I love Usyk. He is the best boxer and heavyweight in a long time. “I think Tyson’s range and IQ in the ring will maybe overwhelm Usyk this time.”
Fury will need Usyk to stay still so he can finish him off if he hurts him with a shot, because he lacks the one-punch power to achieve the knockout.
“I’m going to go with Fury,” Amir Khan said. “He will be more than ready because Fury has that natural talent. He is technically more talented and bigger than them. I got Fury to win this fight because he’s bigger and stronger. He will learn from the mistakes he made in the first fight. The only thing Fury has is that he adapts quite quickly.
“In the fights against Wilder in the first and second, he adapted a lot when he got to the third fight. That’s the only thing Fury has. He is one of those fighters who always adapts and improves. He always learns from his mistakes and becomes a better fighter,” Khan said.
