The super medium unified champion, Canelo Álvarez, will take a stay fight against Christian Mbilli or the IBF champion William Scull in May to help stay ready for September.
Canelo’s coach/manager Eddy Reynoso, told @Boxazteca7 that Scull (23-0, 9 kos) and Mbilli (28-0, 23 kos) are the two candidates who will be chosen for May.
Mbilli would be the much more difficult opponent of Álvarez due to his power, high rate of work and aggression without stopping. It would be like a smaller and more compact version of David Benavész, and would be attacking Canelo without stopping.
It would be an absolute nightmare for Library to fight Mbilli, but it would be a fun and competitive fight to see while hard. You could not rule out a victory for Mbilli, and it would not be a great discomfort at this point in Canelo’s career. Its resistance is very bad now, and it seems too bulky for its small 5’8 ″ frame.
Neither of these two combatants will attract a lot Benavidity are no longer in class.
The scull born in Cuba faced a questionable unanimous decision victory of 12 rounds over Vladimir Shishkin on October 19 in Stadthalle, Falkensee, Germany. Scull did not show much power or talent in that fight and was lucky enough to receive a victory. Many boxing fans felt that Shishkin should have won.
The lack of power of Scull will be problematic if Canelo’s fight lands because it is too weak to compete. However, he has good skills and could steal later rounds against Álvarez, as Edgar Berlanga did in the last fight of the Mexican superstar on September 14.
In the first half, the fight was unilateral, with Canelo that totally dominated the inexperienced belanga. But in the second half, Álvarez faded badly, allowing Berlanga to turn on and enjoy some success.
Canelo must remain busy preparing for a defense of the title against Boxer/Puncher Terence Crawford in September. Staying acute is essential for Canelo because Crawford is a high -level fighter with speed, counterweight and mobility capacity.
Interestingly, Crawford (41-0, 31 kos) will choose to sit and wait until September and run the risk of going to Canelo’s fight after a year out of the ring. However, Crawford has been fighting once a year since 2020, and has not affected it. He was not fighting the avant -garde opposition, and that obviously helped.
Crawford has fought against a good fighter since 2020, Israil Madrimov, and had difficulty overcoming him last August. The 37 -year -old did not see Madrimov at all, which is not a surprise due to his dismissal of one year and his weak curriculum in the last six years.
