Jiménez was accused of First degree murderand a state order issued his arrest on May 15, 2012. A federal order was issued two days later after Jiménez was federally accused of illegal flight to avoid prosecution.

The FBI Chicago, the FBI San Antonio, the FBI Legat Mexico City and the United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois collaborated in the investigation to locate Jiménez. The agents of the Attorney General of the Republic, together with the Organization of the International Criminal Police, arrested him.
