Turki Al-Sheikh wants David Benavíez vs. winner vs. David Morrell of tonight challenges the winner of the February 22 rematch among the undisputed champion of semi -marked weight Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol Next.
According RingTurki wants the winner of Benavidez-Morrelll to be the ring for the Beterbiev vs. bivol II Contest in the Arena kingdom in Riad, Saudi Arabia. That would help create more interest in fights.
It had already been reported that the Victor of Benavidez-Morrelll would challenge the winner of the winner of Bederbiev-Bivol 2, but now Turki has confirmed that that is what will happen.
Can Bivol spoil things?
There is no word if Al-Sheikh’s plans will change If Bivol defeats Bederbiev because that would be a fought trilogy, obvious to do. He would know much of the interest in his rivalry if Bivol will advance to face the winner of Benavidez-Morrelll.
Given how the last fight was developed, Bivol has very good chances of winning the rematch with 40 -year -old Beterbiev. An immediate trilogy among them makes more sense to make Bivol defend against the Benavidez vs. Morrell winner and be beaten by them.
If that happens, the Bederbiev-Bivol trilogy would not be fascinating for many fans. It would be seen as two old major champions. Bivol is 34 years old and looks at his age.
For commercial purposes, David Benavidez must win tonight’s fight against the regular semi-marked weight champion of the AMB Morrell (11-0, 9 kos) in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Benavidez has many Mexican fans in the United States and Mexico. He has been professionally fighting more time than the Cuban Morrell and is better known for casual boxing fans in the United States.
Benavidez is a basic fighter who has overcome fighting outside his weight in 168, and has only used his size and drilling volume to win. Benavidez has been doing what Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. He did it previously in his career. It is a weight hauling strategy that younger fighters can get their way, and there are no safeguards in their place with rehydration clauses in all areas to protect combatants from being victims of this.
When Chávez Jr. was at its best from 2009 to 2014, it was melting in weight to compete against much smaller fighters in the medium weight. It would be rehydrated, it would look like a heavyweight inside the ring and crush them in size.
Chávez Jr. captured a world medium weight title in this way and earned a lot of money. However, when he could no longer gain weight for the 160 -pound division, his career was downhill because he could not beat the fighters of the same size as him.
Benavidez is the same type of fighter, which would explain why he seemed poor in his debut in 175 against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15 of last year. Even against Gvozdyk, 37, Benavász seemed average semi -marked weight. That is why the fight tonight is 50-50 because Morrell is the same size as Benavidez, but with more power and talent.
