Amy Allen becomes the first woman to win the best composer Grammy

You may not have heard of the first woman to be named best composer in the Grammys before, but you may have sung one of her successes.

Amy Allen is behind a series of pop graphics toppers, including the espresso of Sabrina Carpenter and, please, and was also nominated to co -write clues with Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Timberlake and Tate McRAE.

Allen was one of the four nominated women for composer of the year, not classical, in the third year since it was launched as an independent category.

In his acceptance speech, he highlighted the previous lack of recognition for the composers, and added: “Without us, there would be no songs so that no one won prizes.”

He was previously nominated for the same award in 2023, his inaugural year.

Although he did not win then, his first Grammy was taken home for his work at the house of Harry Styles in Harry, who won the album of the year.

“The child in me who began to write songs when I was little in Maine is screaming, crying and laughing at the absurd of this moment,” he said while collecting the golden gramophone on Sunday night.

“This is the third year in which the composer of the year has even been a category, so this award is with all the legends that sounded the lives and generations with all our stories.

“You should have received your flowers at the time.”

Allen, a singer who released his debut album last September, entered the world of music at the age of eight, playing the bass in his sister’s band.

He stayed in the band to high school and then went to the Nursing School, before deciding to change course and join Berklee School of Music. His first project was like Amy and the engine, and it was the support law for singers such as Kacey Musgraves and Vance Joy.

Allen’s first success for another artist came when he wrote to Selena Gomez, something he said “promoted” his career in pop writing. Then he matched with Gomez to write my mind and I, who was nominated for a better Oscar original song in 2023.

She went on to work with Halsey and styles, including the writing of her success adores you, as well as with Lizzo. His first Grammy nomination was in 2022 for the album Justin Bieber Justice.

Since then, Allen has collected a total of eight nominations, including four this year.

He helped Carpenter to write all the songs on the album on the Short N’Sweet list, with the singer who told Variety that she was a “writer and unique friend,” and added: “Everything occurs to him in a very natural way and effortless

This year, Allen’s co-nomers were singer Raye, along with the writers Jessi Alexander, Jessie Jo Dillon and Edgar Barrera.

She said the prize also belonged to them, saying they were “fighting the good fight.”

“We are the engine that feeds the music industry,” he said. “And it has been overlooked and underestimated.

“Needless to say, we have a long way to go.”
