Lauren Goode: I don’t remember that.

Zoe Schiffer: I think he did.

Michael Calore: I don’t know why everyone is looking at me.

Lauren Goode: Yes. Mike, what’s your recommendation?

Michael Calore: Mine is actually oddly related to this unboxing we just had, because I want to recommend spices. So everyone has something they like to put in their food. I have a friend who puts Jordanian za’atar on absolutely everything. I have a friend who loves really expensive, fancy Meyer lemon olive oil, $25 a bottle, and pours it on his breakfast every day. Maybe there’s a chili crisp that someone…

Zoe Schiffer: oh my god I was just going to say.

Michael Calore: Right, because chili chips can be $20.

Zoe Schiffer: So expensive.

Michael Calore: So expensive. So buy them a year’s supply. You know they will use it. And it’s completely thoughtful. It shows that you care, that you have enough insight into their lives that you know them well enough to know how to make them happy. Yes, this is…

Zoe Schiffer: This is so good.

Michael Calore: I don’t know their size if you can’t decide. I don’t know if they have read this book. I don’t know if they’ll actually use it, you’re going to get them something that you know they love and you know they’re going to use.

Zoe Schiffer: This is so good. This is very good, because it is difficult to get yourself. I face this problem as my brother and mother are both chefs. So they’ll come home, they’ll give me really expensive ones, like Momofuku Chili Crisp, and then I’ll be like, “Okay, I’m totally addicted to this. I need all of this. Food all the time.” Then I go to buy it and I’m like, “18 bucks for this little…” No, I can’t.

Lauren Goode: This is actually my favorite top. Momofuku Chili Crisp.

Zoe Schiffer: You can put it on anything.

Michael Calore: Have you tried Fly By Jing?

Lauren Goode: no.

Zoe Schiffer: Oh, and it’s also really good. This is Sichuan chili.

Michael Calore: Awesome.

Zoe Schiffer: Really delicious.

Lauren Goode: This is great. God, I feel like I’ve recommended Snake Oil and everyone’s like, “Oh, Mike. Yes. Thank you.” Now I’m hungry.
