The rebels declare the high fire in Dr. Congo for ‘humanitarian reasons’

The alliance of the rebel groups in the East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has declared a high humanitarian fire starting Tuesday.

In a statement, the group, which includes the M23 rebels backed by Rwanda, cited “humanitarian reasons” for the high fire, after having captured territory in the eastern parts of the country.

The UN said that at least 900 people have been killed and 2,880 wounds in recent rubber fighting and its surroundings, the largest eastern city of DR Congo dr, after it was seized by the rebels.

The nations of the G7 and the EU have condemned the offensive as a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of Dr. Congo.

The alliance of the rebel groups, known as the Congo River alliance, accused the Congolese army of killing people who use airplanes to bombard the areas it has.

He added that he does not intend to take more territory, despite saying otherwise last week, and will maintain his positions.

In a statement, the Alliance said: “We reiterate our commitment to protect and defend the civilian population and our positions.”

The regional struggle has seen hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the last three years. Since the beginning of 2025, more than 400,000 people have been forced from their homes, according to the UN refugee agency.

The president of Ruanda, Paul Kagame, who is also commander in chief of the Rwanda Defense Force, said he did not know if his country’s troops were in Dr Congo.

“There are many things that I don’t know. But if you want to ask me, is there any problem in the Congo that refers to Rwanda? And what Rwanda would do something to protect himself? I would say 100%,” he said. CNN Mondays.

Meanwhile, human rights groups have been asking for more pressure on Rwanda to go back.

Dr. Congo’s Minister of Communications asked the international community to impose sanctions on Rwanda.

“A strong decision (must be taken) not only to condemn, but to stop what Rwanda is doing, because it is not acceptable if you want to preserve peace in Africa and in our region,” Patrick Mujaya told Reuters.

“The sanctions are the minimum,” he added.

Congolese and Ruandese presidents will attend a regional peace summit in Tanzania on Friday.

With 30 years of conflict behind them, any negotiation is expected to decompose, as they have done several times in the last year, it could continue for months.
