New AGA Khan appointed as Prince Rahim al-Hussaini

Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini has been appointed the new Aga Khan, a spiritual leader of millions of Chiite Muslims of Ismaili worldwide.

He will assume the role of his father Prince Karim Aga Khan, who died on Tuesday at the age of 88.

The appointment was made after Prince Karim Aga Khan’s testament was revealed, said the development network of Aga Khan in a statement.

Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V will be the 50th hereditary imam of Ismaili Muslims, who say they are direct deceased of the Muhammad prophet.

The Ismailis are a Shiite Muslim sect that venerates several magnets, including the Imam Ismail, who died in 765 AD.

They have a world population of approximately 15 million, including 500,000 in Pakistan.

There are also large populations in India, Afghanistan and parts of Africa.

Prince Karim Aga Khan happened to his grandfather as IMAM of the Muslims of Ismaili in 1957 at the age of 20.

He died surrounded by family in Lisbon, Portugal, said the development network of Aga Khan.
