A US senator has unveiled a new bill to secure telecommunications companies after Chinese attacks


US Democratic Senator Ron Wyden announced a new bill aimed at securing US telephone networks and communications for Americans. massive hack allegedly made by telecommunications providers Chinese government hackers.

Wyden made the announcement in a press release on Tuesday The Secure American Communications Act. The bill would order the Federal Communications Commission to “implement specific cybersecurity requirements” requiring telecommunications providers to conduct annual tests to assess how vulnerable their networks are; hiring independent auditors to ensure telecom companies are in compliance with new FCC cybersecurity rules; and provide documentation from tests and audits and a statement from the CEO and Chief Information Security Officer stating that the telecommunications carrier is in compliance with FCC regulations.

“Congress must strengthen and pass mandatory security regulations to protect our telecommunications system from invasion by hackers and spies,” Wyden said.
