The Battle of Britain between heavyweights Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could finally come in early 2025. AJ and Fury’s promoters are ready to organize this fight, and the Brits are keen to watch the two stars from the Kingdom United mix. As the saying goes: “Better late than never.”
Fury’s loss last Saturday night against Oleksandr Usyk may have ruined the party. In a 12-round unanimous decision loss in Riyadh, he fought like he was afraid of being knocked out and looked fat, poorly trained and lethargic.
With his swimsuit hiked up to his sternum to cover his flabby abdomen, Fury looked horrible in an embarrassing performance. It was hard to believe that ‘The Gypsy King’ had gone through an entire three-month training camp and emerged looking like this.
After that performance, Testing and selling a Fury vs. joshua ‘Battle of Britain’ crash would be a mistake. However, that doesn’t stop his promoters, because they learned that it is too risky not to make this fight now.
Obviously, the timing is not ideal, as they are both coming off losses and looking old, washed, and ready to be put out to pasture. However, many British fans are eager to see former heavyweight champions Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) and Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) meet for the first of two fights in 2025.
Ideally, AJ and Fury should get a couple of wins before facing each other because it seems pathetic for them to fight now since they are both coming off losses. Fans would have a different view if they both beat a couple of top-tier contenders first and then faced each other. If they cannot do so, they should retreat instead of fighting.
Many fans on social media think it’s too late for Joshua and Fury to fight because they’re both so fired up that the fight looks like a race against the clock between two rich millionaires trying to line their pockets at the public’s expense before abandoning the sport. However, it is doubtful that any of them will retire after their next two fights.
There is too much money to be made and UK fans can’t give up on their fighters, no matter the age. Derek Chisora is an example. If promoters want to maximize revenue, they should first rebuild Joshua and Fury against a couple of contenders before facing the Battle of Britain. Don’t be short-sighted.
“I still think Tyson just won it. I wasn’t complaining about the results of the fight. I was complaining about how they rated it,” Frank Warren told Exit secondstalking about how the judges rated the rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk 2 last Saturday.
“I don’t understand how a judge gave Tyson only one round for the last seven rounds. That’s impossible. I saw that and I don’t know how he got it. “Usyk didn’t win the last seven rounds of that fight.”
