A Schnauzer giant named Monty was a better crowned in show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Tuesday, the most prestigious dog show in the United States.
After reaching the last three years in a row, Monty beat more than 2,500 canines to become the first giant Schnauzer to take home the main prize of the program.
“The puppy did the damn thing,” said the owner of Monty, Katie Bernardin, in the televised event from Madison Square Garden of New York City.
The dog club is the oldest in the United States dedicated to show dogs, with its annual show, now in its 149th year, the second longest sporting event held in the United States after Kentucky derby.
The winners of each of the 200 competing races advance to compete for one of the seven group titles, and each winner of the group moved to the final.
After two years of winning the working group, but not securing the general prize, the five -year -old man with a completely black coat finally came out at the top.
He gave his first winner’s work group since 2004.
Judge Paula Nykiel, who is a dog’s breeder and owner-feator, chose Monty the best on display after she stood out in preliminary events during the three-day competition.
When choosing a winner, the judges also consider the ideal standard of the race and examine their body and mouth.
Among the more than 2,500 Beat’s Monty throughout the country, was Bourbon, nine years old, who went up to second place, or reserved better as they are known in the program.
Whippet came out of retirement for the event and claimed the best reservation for the third time.
Other finalists of this year included Comet The Shih Tzu, Mercedes the German shepherd and Neal The Bichon Frize.
In 2024, a female miniature poodle won better in show.
