Dune: The Prophecy it’s over his first season with an epic 80 minute episode It didn’t quite wrap up any of the storylines, including the central mystery of who or what used the forbidden technology to create it. Bio-weapons on Arrakis. It’s good that the HBO series, a prequel set 10,000 years before the Denis Villeneuve films, will return in the future.
At the press conference dedicated to “Ali Dushman”, the finale of the first season Dune: The Prophecyseries executive producer and executive producer Alison Schapker, along with stars Emily Watson (Valya Harkonnen) and Olivia Williams (Tula Harkonnen), talked mostly about season one, but they did tease a bit about what’s to come.
Speaking about how the series evolved over six episodes given the scope and number of characters, Schapker said the team stuck to one guiding principle: “to give each episode its own personality.”
But at the same time, he added, “it’s important to feel that things have changed and that the characters have been exposed to something that moves the story forward. It was always important to understand the story of Valya, Desmond and Tula. I would say that they were our main heroes. But then it was just a matter of trying to introduce everybody – and it’s a big world, and it’s a tight one. So it was a bit of a balancing act. But I’m very happy with how the six episodes were built and reached the finale.”
As for where he wanted to leave things at the end of season one, Schapker said, “I wanted to feel like by the end of the season the ground had really shifted under their feet, but at the same time we’d have that kind of revelation. will make us understand these characters and their dynamics in a different way, and there will be a kind of re-contextualization of the story. So when you watch the whole story, you realize, “Oh, there was a lot more going on than I first realized,” which I think is true to the way Sisterhood works—the sense of being there. plots within plots, there’s more to the story than meets the eye at first glance. At the end of season one, I think you get the history of the (Harkonnen) sisters, the history of the Sisterhood, and then the real revelation, a truth that emerges. This was also important for me, a major change in dynamics.”
When asked about their characters’ moods at the end of season one, both Watson and Williams weighed in.
“I think things have (changed between them),” Watson said. “But I think that Valya still has the idea that ‘I am the chosen one.’ I have a destiny.” (It is still) his guide on this path. But I’d be very interested to know what happens next.”
Williams added: “I think the biggest thing for Tula is the moment (she said), ‘Don’t kill my son. Believe me, I have it.” And (Valya) trusting me and (leaving her with Desmond), soon after not knowing that my son had arrested me – (this) between the sisters, the moment when she finally entrusted Tula with something, all these years she knew that he was highly skilled and highly effective and that little she knew she was treated like a sister. “Sometimes people of that nature like to stay in the shadows, and if they push it further, it will be interesting to see what happens and if they can overcome it.”
Schapker built on it. “I like this idea of what you said: in some ways, the sisters change (places) in the sense of Valya, and Tula is suddenly prominent in the capital, and what will that mean for them? is moving forward,” he said. “But I also think that any secret that comes out, the longer you keep it, the pain around it has to be metabolized… it makes you rethink your relationship going back years, how did I miss something?”
Watson added: “I think it’s also a humbling moment because everything (my character does) is based on my leadership, my sense of truth. But in a certain sense, Valya is not mean. It’s like, ‘I’m not going to do emotions and I’m not going to be afraid, so I’m going to move on.’
Perhaps the biggest question left after season one—who was behind Desmond’s transformation?—Shapker remained vague about any potential season two spoilers. “(If you) look back at season one, there are clues to Desmond’s personality, his strength and where everything comes from,” he said. “As far as some kind of shadowy figures[who appear to be controlling his destiny]I think that remains to be seen. But we’re trying to plant her—I don’t know if people realize it, but the outfit she’s wearing when we first see her, when Desmond Hart shows up and walks up to the palace, she has this black outfit. It’s really a sign of his mother, and it (reappears) throughout the series. He uses it as a living type (a way of keeping) of his driver and connection in private moments. Finally he meets her and grabs her real clothes and realizes that it was once a piece of a baby blanket and it’s something she swaddled him with ((it’s her sister’s clothes that she’s holding on to. And now she’s finally with her mom. I mean) , we see where the story goes. We tried to do things like that to build and anticipate.
Okay, but what about the second biggest question: What happens now that Valya Harkonnen, Keiran Atreides, and Prince Ynez are on Arrakis? As expected, here is Schapker with some hints but not much detail.
“After the sort of remote involvement of the Arrakis season — whether it’s in the economics of the spice trade or the psychological aspects of Arrakis and the visions and nightmares that kind of seeped into everyone’s way of Desmond’s path —[that was our luck]really went into this incredibly over-determined to put the boots down in a done and almost mythical way Dune a space we know all too well, but we’ve kind of kept it at a distance all season. I think Valya went back there, and she went back to Desmond’s point of origin, where she came out with a story and a myth: “I’m from Arrakis and I was swallowed by a worm. the whole regiment was killed.” I will say that considering Valya is where Desmond emerged as an opponent, I think she will learn a lot more and it will be interesting to see what she finds there.
