The promoter of Golden Boy, Oscar de la Hoya, had a small subtle excavation in Keyshawn Davis on Saturday night by saying that his fighter, Oscar Duarte (29-2-1, 23 kos) was able to knock Miguel Madueno (31- 4, 28, 28 kos), while Keyshawn could not. It is not that the best physically promoted range cannot knock on Madueno.
De la Hoya did not come out and said it, but what is hinting is Duarte is a better fighter than Keyshawn. He stopped to say it, but that is obviously what he meant when he pointed out that Duarte did better than Keyshawn. He is right. Duarte worked much better against Maudeno than Davis.
The power was there for that fight, but the courage no. After trying the power of the Mexican fighter, Keyshawn seemed scared to be beaten. Then, instead of trying a knockout, he turned the fight into a WWE type match full of wrestling tactics. The referee allowed Keyshawn to use tactics without disqualifying it. Last Friday, Keyshawn was still using the same tactics.
Davis captured the lightweight title of the OMB on Friday night, accelerating a champion Denys Berinchyk in four rounds in Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City. Last year, on July 6, Keyshawn went to the distance of Ten Ronda, surpassing Madueno for a unanimous decision.
Keyshawn seemed to be afraid of fighting aggressively against Madueno as he had done against Berinchyk because he could hit, and was being beaten strongly in the first rounds when he fought. Davis seemed to give up the idea after the third round when he ate some great blows of Madueno.
“Keyshawn Davis could not knock on Madueño. That tells you a lot about Oscar Duarte and about Keyshawn because he has just won the world title last night, ”Oscar de la Hoya told Dazn after the victory of the seventh round of Oscar Duarte over Miguel Madueno on Saturday night.
