Anaheim, California-Oscar Duarte did what no one had done before: to stop Miguel Madueño, 26, in the seventh round. As Oscar de la Hoya pointed out, not even the freshly crowned light champion of the OMB, Keyshawn Davis, was able to arrest Madueño last July.
This is a recently revitalized Duarte, who, with the world -renowned coach Robert García, has been in a constant ascent towards a world title. He had fans in the euphoric of Honda Center with his performance. Duarte made a show from beginning to end. His ring walk presented Mexican singers Miguel Cornejo and Juan Freer, who sang the song “I come from nothing.” Inside the ring, he used the first round to feel his opponent.
Once he felt the power of Madueño, he hoped that he could endure his blows. Duarte was able to master the exchanges because it was faster and stronger than Madueño. Duarte obtained 121 power blows in seven rounds, connecting in 39 percent of his power blows (121 of 310). Madueño had a healthy work rate but could not find the goal, which landed only 20.7 of his total blows (compute).
After the game, Duarte told the media that he would like to become a world champion, possibly establishing a match with Arnold Barboza Jr. or even avenging his loss against Ryan García. For the latter, it is very likely to happen later in the future, since Garcia has declared that he cannot make 140 pounds. A game with Barboza would be easier to do, since both share the same promoter in Golden Boy.
Barboza surpassed Jack Catterall by an earlier divided decision in the day, becoming the mandatory champion for the ombus champion Teofimo López. Duarte would like to face any of the champions in his division and declared that he is ready for them. I could build a curriculum worthy of an opportunity for the title if it continues in this trajectory. I match the AMB champion, José Valenzuela, but share the same coach, Robert García. In front of a stable partner may not be in the cards.
Another potential option could be the WBC championship, Alberto Puello will face Sandor Martin on March 1 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Duarte seems determined to do the necessary work to become a champion. He said he would take a few days off to rest and then return to the gym to train. He wants to be ready for the one who combines it with the next one.
Regis Prograis was the original opponent, but could not compete due to an injury he suffered in the camp. Duarte seemed very prepared, and would have defeated the programs if he had faced him in the ring. Robert García knows how to get the best out of his fighters and improve them. Duarte will only improve with Robert, and a championship match appears on the horizon.
