Tyson Fury faltered again last Saturday night, losing in his rematch against three-belt heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk on the Turki Alalashikh undercard in Riyadh. This latest loss to Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) raises questions about whether his fights against Deontay Wilder undermined the best in him, leaving the vulnerable shell that Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) outboxed by 12- . Victory round by unanimous decision.
Fury fans expected him to use his massive 55-pound gargoyle and six-inch height advantage to subdue the smaller Usyk. The Gypsy King’s team thought they could do to Usyk what they had done to Wilder in their second fight in 2020. He was probably Fury’s baby.
Tyson came up with the idea of gaining a lot of weight from the 262 he had weighed in the first fight and trying to use his size to attack Usyk like he had done yesterday against Deontay at 1,764.
Fury, 36, couldn’t do it because he is not the agile and energetic fighter he was four years ago when he destroyed Deontay in four rounds. Age, weight gain, a poorly thought out game plan and enormous wealth have sapped everything Fury has. Therefore, he had nothing left to defend himself against Usyk.
The version of Fury who beat Wilder would have been too much for Usyk, but he is no longer that fighter. The Witch’s age, weight and wealth made him an easy target for the talented unified heavyweight champion Usyk.
Usyk-Fury 2 Hit Stats
The striking statistics clearly show that Usyk was the clear winner. After the fight, Fury put on a childish show, complaining about the scores and saying he should have won by three rounds. He wasn’t even going to try to be nice about his defeat, take the high road to show some class. I wonder what Turki Alalashikh was thinking when he saw how poor The Gypsy King was.
“Tyson Fury, great job. I know you will come back. Spend some time with your family,” Evander Holyfield said in social networkstrying to lift Tyson Fury’s spirits after another loss to Oleksandr Usyk last Saturday night.
