Donald Trump made many promises while running for president. He promised to reduce taxes, reduce prices, undocumented migration Stem, increase income and strengthen the US industry with new tariffs and final wars.
Some of his proposals were detailed by his policy team or presented by Trump himself, in videos “Agenda 47” on the website of his campaign. Others were apparently offered out of place, a product of the style and the openness of “Think aloud” by Trump to adopt ideas that others had suggested.
In his victory speech on November 6, he made it clear that he intended to maintain the promises that sent him back to the White House: “I will govern for a simple motto: promises made, promises maintained.”
It has become a kind of slogan in its first month in office, which has been marked by a storm of activity and remarkable progress to achieve some of its objectives.
In areas such as immigration and foreign policy, Trump has a wide power to act unilaterally, and has done so. In other areas, he has faced legal challenges and political obstacles. Many of the other promises that have made will require that the action of Congress, under the narrow republican control, becomes permanent.
Here is a look at some of Trump’s biggest votes and his efforts to become a reality.
What he said:
“When I win, I will reduce prices immediately, starting the first day.” Press Conference, August 2024
What he has done:
This is perhaps its biggest challenge, given the frequency with which inflation leads the voter priorities list during the electoral campaign. In his inaugural speech, Trump promised to “gather the vast powers” of his cabinet to quickly reduce costs and prices, but it is not clear how. One way, he says, is to increase drilling to reduce energy costs.
A strong price increase in January, the largest monthly increase for 16 months, has complicated Trump’s task. He blamed Joe Biden, who left the position on January 20, and democratic spending. “It had nothing to do with that,” Trump said.
On other occasions, however, he has admitted that it is difficult for US presidents to control prices. But economists warn that some of their policies could feed inflation and surveys suggest that voters would like to see it doing more.
What he said:
“The first day, I will launch the largest deportation program in the history of the United States to get criminals.” November 4, 2024
What he has done:
Immigration may have been Trump’s main approach since he took power, with more than a dozen executive orders aimed at reviewing the system. His plan to deport foreign citizens in the country illegally, beginning with those convicted of crimes, seems to have generalized public support.
But it is not clear if he will fulfill his promise to deport so many. Some raids have reached the holders, but the number of people who are eliminated does not seem to be record, according to the daily figures.
In its first month in office, the United States deported 37,660 people, less than the monthly average of 57,000 removals and returns in the last full year of the administration of Joe Biden, as shown in data obtained by Reuters.
A DHS spokesman told the agency that the deportation numbers of the Biden era were higher because the illegal immigration was greater. Border meetings at the national level decreased by 66% in January compared to 2024, according to the White House.
What he said:
“I will look at J6 from the beginning, maybe the first nine minutes.” Time Magazine, December 2024
What he has done:
Faithful to his word, hours after the presidential oath, Trump issued pardons and switches that raided the way for the release of more than 1,500 people convicted or accused in relation to the disturbances of the United States Capitol. A police officer who was beaten that day told the BBC that the pellets were a “slap on the face.”
What he said:
“They are dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I will, I will do it in 24 hours.” CNN City Council, 2023
What he has done:
Trump has initiated the first conversations between the United States and Russia since the beginning of the war, but Ukraine has promised to reject any agreement that hatched without him, and there has been an angry exchange between the leaders. President Volodymyr Zelensky fears that the president of the United States delves his campaign promise to end the war, but in the terms of Moscow and without security guarantees. There is also anxiety in the European capitals that are being marginalized, and that Trump can dismantle some of the sanctions imposed on Russia as punishment for the invasion.
What he said:
Trump told NBC in December that “absolutely” he planned to finish birth citizenship on the first day: “If someone puts a foot of just one foot … on our land, congratulations. You are now a citizen of the United States of America “
What he has done:
In one of the first acts of his second presidency, Trump ordered the end of an automatic right to American citizenship currently received by almost any person born on American soil. Birth law citizenship is not the norm worldwide, and Trump’s move points to those in the United States illegally or in temporary visas.
The opponents say that the Plan interferes with a right established by an amendment to the Constitution of the United States almost 160 years ago. And the issue could be directed to the Supreme Court, the highest in the United States, after an appeal court ruled against Trump, defending a legal block in his plan.
What he said:
“On January 20, as one of my many first executive orders, I will sign all the necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% rate on all the products that arrive in the United States, and its ridiculous open borders.” November 25
What he has done:
Trump announced on January 21 that he would impose general tariffs on his neighbors on February 1, linking them with the flow of drugs and migrants with the United States. The president has seen rates for a long time, which are an import tax, as a way of protecting the national industry and increasing income. Canada and Mexico said they would promulgate retaliation taxes on US imports. But Trump delayed the beginning of tariffs for a month, after the promises of both countries to increase the border application. There had also been volatility in markets and warnings of economic experts that these actions could make prices increase.
