The Canelo Four Plan: Scull, Crawford, Eubank Jr./benn, and the unknown

Turki Alalshikh plans that Canelo Alvarez fights against the eventual winner of Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn’s fights in 2026. Those two combatants will compete twice in the British poles, from April 26 at Tottenham Hotsps Stadium in London. Fans wanted to see the opposition of Canelo’s fighting quality, such as David Benavidez, not these two types.

Turki told Sky Sports that he wants Eubank JR-Benn winners to challenge the unified medium-sized cinnamon champion (62-2-2, 39 kO) for their belts next year.

This movement will please the United Kingdom fans, who enjoy seeing Eubank Jr. and Benn. However, none of these combatants qualifies an opportunity for the world title against Canelo in 168 or even a fight in general. Giving the winner of the two Eubank JR.-Benn fight against an opportunity for the title against Canelo sends the wrong message.

Sports or business?

It is similar to what we see with Terence Crawford uploading two kinds of weight to challenge Canelo for its three belts in 168 in September. These combatants should beat the main contestants in Super Middleweight to win a fight for the three belts of Álvarez.

What seems to be happening is a transforming sport into business. Canelo’s fights against Crawford and Eubank Jr-Benn winner are not sports level fights. They are fighting at business and celebrity levels, which are fine, but it would be better for fans if Turki tagged these matches as such. They are the children of famous British boxers, and have earned a lot of money in their careers despite never facing hard competition.
