Democratic of Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs Plan to expand border security operations along the four border counties of the State, placing an additional approach in interrupting transnational criminal organizations (TCO).
Hobbs signed an executive order on Tuesday to establish Operation Desert Guardian, a joint work group in which the State is associated with the Local Police, the Sheriffs and the Federal Government to interrupt TCO operations in Yuma Counties, Pima , Santa Cruz and Cochise.
“I am proud to launch Operation Desert Guardian to combat the posters, stop drug smuggling and trafficking in people and ensure the Arizona border,” Hobbs said. “My administration has been in contact with the federal government and local sheriffs on the operation, their critical objectives and our shared commitment to keep criminals and drugs without Arizona communities“
Hobbs added that the objectives of the operation will include the identification and mitigation of security vulnerabilities along the southern border of Arizona, which extends approximately 370 miles, while fighting the crimes related to the border committed by the TCO. To do so, said Hobbs, the joint task force plans to dismantle the supply chains of TCO and the operational networks.

The financing of the Desert Guardian operation will come from a part of the State Border Security Fund, which has a balance of $ 28 million.
