Mexico has extradited 29 alleged members of the drug poster to the United States, including high -profile gang leaders.
The extradited ones include the famous drug trafficker Rafael Caro Quintero, who was wanted by the United States for the murder of an American agent 40 years ago.
The movement, considered of the greatest extraditions in the history of Mexico, is considered an important step in bilateral security relations between the two countries.
It occurs after the president of the United States, Donald Trump, threatened earlier this year to impose tariffs on imports from Mexico, accusing him of not addressing drug trafficking and mass migration.
“As President Trump has made clear, the posters are terrorist groups, and this justice department is dedicated to destroying posters and transnational gangs,” said the attorney general of the United States, Pam Bondi, in a statement on Thursday night.
“We will prosecute these criminals to the maximum extension of the law in honor of the brave agents of application of the law who have dedicated their careers, and in some cases, given their lives, to protect the innocent people from the scourge of violent posters,” he added.
Reacting to the interim administrator of the extradition of the extradition of Caro Quintero, Derek Maltz, he praised the measure as a “victory for the Camarena family.”
He added: “Today sends a message to each leader of the poster, each trafficker, every criminal poisoning of our communities: he will be responsible.
“No matter how long it takes, it doesn’t matter how far you get, justice will find you.”
Quintero is expected to appear in court in New York on Friday.
Other extradited fugitives include the founders of the brutal zetas poster: Miguel Angel Treviño and his brother Omar Treviño.
Known as Z-40 and Z-42, respectively, the two men directed the dreaded organization for years before their eventual disappearance in the mid-2010.
Michael Treviño, was Arrested by Mexican marines in July 2013It was wanted on both sides of the border for ordering massacres and executing drugs on a global scale.
Omar Treviño – who was sought in the United States and Mexico for drug trafficking positions, kidnapping and murder – was Captured by security forces in Monterrey in March 2015.
Its criminal empire covered a wide range of illicit activities, including cocaine commanders, people traffic, extortion, weapons career and kidnappings.
Police in Webb County, Texas, confirmed the extradition of the brothers and warned Americans to cross Mexico for fear of reprisals.
