Hundreds of staff of the National Administration of the Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have been fired in the last development in the efforts of the Trump administration to reduce the Federal Work Force.

Around 880 workers, including meteorological forecasts, have finished their work on Thursday, the US BBC CBS partner reported.

The cuts are produced as Elon Musk, as the head of the so -called Government Efficiency Department (Doge), continues an impulse to reduce spending through fund and shots cuts.

A NOAA spokesman said the agency would not comment on internal personnel matters.

Before Thursday’s cuts, NOAA had around 12,000 employees worldwide, including 6,773 who are scientists and engineers, according to the agency’s website.

“We continue to provide weather information, forecasts and warnings in accordance with our public security mission,” added NOAA spokesman.

But, Californian Democratic congressman Jared Huffman said people in the United States “depend on NOAA for free and precise forecasts, severe climatic alerts and emergency information.”

“Hundreds of NOAA scientists and experts have just received the news that each federal worker has feared,” added Congressman Huffman.

“Musk’s simulated mission is leading to vital programs to a squeak stand. The purge of the government of scientists, experts and career officials and the fundamental programs of the career will cost lives.”

Miyoko Sakashita, director of the Ocean Center for Biological Diversity, said to gartain the programs of “the essential life of the hamstrings.”

The last developments arrive days after the US government workers faced a generalized confusion after contradictory advice on compliance with an order backed by musk to enumerate the work of their last week in an email or facial termination.

The message sent to millions of federal employees last Saturday night occurred after Musk published on its social media platform X that government staff “would shortly receive an email that requests to understand what they did last week.”

On Sunday, Musk said in some cases “we believe that non -existent people or the identities of dead people are being used to collect payment checks.”

In a copy of the email obtained by the BBC, employees were asked to respond explaining their achievements last week in five bullet points, without revealing classified information.

But, key agencies, including defense departments (DOD), Human Health and Services (HHS), Justice, Pentagon and FBI, now led by employees appointed by those appointed by Trump to ignore the directive.

Agencies such as the Department of Transportation, the Secret Service and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency also encouraged their staff to comply, according to reports.

On Wednesday, Musk reiterated the suggestion that several federal employees who did not respond to an email that requested a summary of their achievements of the previous week could be “dead” or “not real people”, but did not offer data to support it.

Talk with The first Trump cabinet meetingMusk told reporters: “I think email was perhaps better interpreted as a performance review, but it was actually a pulse verification review.

“Do you have a pulse? Do you have a pulse? And two neurons. So, if you have a pulse and two neurons, can you answer an email.”

On Thursday, a federal judge in San Francisco discovered that the massive shots of employees on probation were probably illegal.

The district judge William Alsup ordered the Personnel Management Office to inform certain federal agencies that he had no authority to order the dismissals of evidence, even in the Department of Defense.
