A Japanese woman who unexpectedly kissed the K-Pop Boy’s BTS band in a fans event last year has been under investigation by the South Korean police.
Police have asked women, who are currently in Japan, present to question sexual harassment positions in a public space.
The incident occurred during the first public event of K-Pop Idol in Seoul last June, which saw him hug 1,000 fans. Instead of simply hugging the star, the woman seemed to have kissed her face, with Jin responding away.
The kiss angered other BTS fans, one of whom filed a criminal complaint against her, which led the police to launch an investigation.
On June 13, 2024, the day after he was discharged from the Army, Jin, whose real name is Kim Seok-Jin, celebrated an event of fans where he hugged 1,000 fans and held songs in front of another 3,000.
During the “Hugathon” of three hours, fans who gained the opportunity to hug him in tail and went on stage one by one to meet the 33 -year -old star.
But one of them caused a fuss when it seemed to kiss Jin’s face.
The clips of the moment became viral on the Internet. The videos show that Jin, bewildered by the movement, tried to turn his head while hugging the woman before going quickly to the next fan. Fans could also be seen reacting angry at their actions.
He later wrote on his blog later that he kissed him “on his neck” and “The skin was very soft.”
The identity of the woman has not been revealed, but the police added that they had identified her with the help of her Japanese counterparts.
The BBC has communicated with the BTS HYBE agency to comment.
Jin is the first BTS member who has been discharged from military duty. It was followed by J-Hope, who was discharged in October. The other four – V, RM, Jimin, Jungkook and Suga – are still serving and is expected to meet only in June 2025.
K-pop idols are known for having a close relationship with their fansbales through several channels and communication events. It is common for artists to communicate with fans through the live transmission chats of social networks and events in person to cultivate loyal fans.
But fans and agencies have also been aware of some cultures of toxic fans. For example, many artists have expressed the stress caused by “Sasaeng fans”, who are too obsessed with their idols that would stalk and harass artists.
