The 76ers said that the decision to close Embiid in the section of the 2024-25 campaign was taken once it was determined that it was “medically unable to play.”
“The Philadelphia 76ers and Joel Embiid have been consulting with the main specialists on in progress with their left knee. After an additional evaluation, it has been determined that he is medically unable to play and will lose the rest of the season to focus on treatment and rehabilitation,” the team said in a statement.

Counting the 164 games, its first two seasons were lost after it was the third general selection in the 2014 NBA draft and what remains this season, Embiid will have played in 452 of the 883 games of the 76ers for the end of this season, losing almost 50% of the regular season.

“I think the direct answer is that when you have something that is inconsistent, at some point, you have to do something about it,” said Embiid. “We don’t know what it is. We are investigating each option.”
He played only 39 games last season due to a meniscus torn in his left knee. Embiid won a gold medal with the American Olympic team Last year at the Paris Games.
He has played only 58 regular seasonal games and seven playing tournament and playoff games since he obtained MVP honors from the League.

Embiid signed a $ 193 million contract extension before the season and has approached almost $ 266 million in professional profits.
Philadelphia entered this season as one of the favorites to compete for an NBA title, but the team is in the midst of a nine -game losing streak. The Sixers entered Friday in 12th place in the classification of the Eastern Conference.
