In the world of sports, at some point in the career of an elite athlete, that individual achieves an achievement that translates into a special moment, and on Saturday night March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, many fans of the fight believe that Lamont Roach Jr was stolen from his moment.
Upon reaching the confrontation of the light world title of the AMB, Lamont Roach was considered a great loser. However, Roach was a discipline attached to his game plan, and as a result he obtained a controversial raffle.
Initially, when the fight was announced, Hardcore boxing fans were not impressed due to the fact that Roach was the third fighter to gain weight to challenge Davis. Casual fans adopted the fight due to the geographical aspect.
For many decades, Baltimore and Washington DC have carried out an intense rivalry that originated due to cultural differences. In this particular championship fight, it happens that Gervonta Davis is from Baltimore, and Lamont Roach is originally from Washington DC.
On the night of fighting, the DMV area represented, while an exhausted crowd congregated inside the Barclays center. In the first round of the world’s world -weight title fight, the Challenger Lamont Roach used Feints, threw the jab and the right to the body.
The first round presented Tank’s traditional slow beginning, since he only got a blow to the first round. Lamont Roach continued to take the lead in the second round while pressing cautiously.
Davis began the third round landing a couple of solid shots to the body, but as the round was staying down, Roach responded by landing a right hand cutting. In the fourth round, Davis exhibited his lateral movement, and when he planted his feet, he connected with a clean left hand followed by a right to the body.
In the last seconds of the fourth round, when Davis and Roach were in a Clinch, the referee told them to hit and leave. Roach landed a cunning right hand while he was in the Clinch, and when Tank turned to complain to the referee, Roach landed a clean left hand.
After Davis landed two consecutive left hands in the fifth round, he and Roach got involved in another Clinch. Davis proceeded to push his right shoulder up, and landed under his opponent’s chin. Roach immediately responded by connecting with a short right hand.
At the midpoint of the fight, Davis accelerated the rhythm while connected with a series of left hand shots. Roach became extremely brave in Round 7 while standing in his pocket and changed blows with Davis. In the eighth Ronda, Lamont Roach had a great moment when he landed a counter of the right hand that backed Davis.
The controversial moment of the fight occurred in the 2:18 brand in the ninth round. After Roach hit Davis with a right hand followed by a jab, Davis stepped back and knelt. Davis proceeded to trot to his corner for his face to clean.
The referee warned Davis by stating what he did seemed a fall, but fortunately for Davis, the referee did not rule it as a fall. As the game continued, Tank loaded its shots and threw them with bad intentions.
However, Roach was able to take the shots and respond by getting some great blows of his own. During the course of the championship rounds, the challenging confident Lamont Roach stopped in his pocket and continued to succeed by landing his right hand.
At the end of the 12 round championship fight, the voltage level was at its highest point, since they all waited impatiently to listen to the official scores. After 36 minutes of action, a judge scored the 115-113 fight, for Davis, but that card was annulled as the other two judges noted the combat 114-114.
As the game was declared a draw, everyone immediately returned to the fall that was not called a demolition. During his interview after the fight, Gervonta Davis gave his explanation regarding what happened during that controversial moment.
“I just prepared my hair two days ago and she put fat in my shit,” Davis said. “Then the shit was as if you knew, like when you sweated and things like that, and the fat comes in my face, I burned my eyes. Damn, why are they booing as if they were saying shit? Thus they are real facts. Let’s go man. “
If the referee had enforced the rule and the demolition has been correctly called, then it would have been a 10-8 round for Roach, but unfortunately it was not called the fall and two of the three judges proceeded to score the ninth round 10-9 in favor of Gervonta Davis.
The loss of the referee hurt Lamont Roach on the score cards and gave a bad look at the boxing. For example, if the roles were invested and Lamont Roach knelt because he had fat in his eyes, he would have definitely called a fall.
Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 kos) believes he won the fight, but unfortunately for him he declared a draw. Roach did not get the victory, but during the press conference after the fight, he talked about the moral victory of fighting under the bright lights and demonstrating that he deserved to be there.
“I thought I had won, I thought I had done enough to get the victory over a spectacular fighter. I told everyone from the beginning that I get the skills to pay Mutha F ** Kin’s bills. ”
