The former owner of the New York nursery sentenced 45 years for the death of Fentanilo as a small


A former Bronx, New York The owner of the nursery has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after a young child died under his care for eating fentanil in September 2023.

The United States prosecutor for the Southern New York district announced Monday that Grei Méndez declared himself guilty in October charges that include conspiracy to distribute narcotics that result in death.

The positions come from the death of Nicholas Dominici of 22 months, who was exposed to fentanil in the nursery.

Three other children also suffered serious injuries and had to be hospitalized after the authorities found two children of 2 years and an 8 -month -old girl, who did not respond, in the basement of the Bronx nursery.

Dominici’s mother, Zoila Dominici, faced Méndez in court and “she never forgave her” for what let her pass her son, The New York Post reported.

“It is not possible to forgive something like this. Forty -five years are not enough,” Dominici said during an emotional testimony.

“I don’t forgive you. Let God forgive you,” Dominici continued.

During the previous presentation, it was revealed in a judicial presentation that Méndez had Narcan Kits in the nursery, but did not try to revive the children, according to the United States Prosecutor’s Office for the South District.

“I had the key to helping these children, and did not use it,” said Maggie Lynaugh, Federal Prosecutor, in the Court on Monday.

When the first to respond came, Méndez did not mention that children could be suffering an opioid overdose, reads the complaint.

“Grei Méndez operated an out of an apartment in the basement in the Bronx in which large amounts of mortal fentanil were mixed, packaged and stored,” said Matthew Podolsky, the interim lawyer of the United States for the Southern District of New York, in a statement.

“He put babies of only eight months of age directly in danger while they slept, played and ate in a room where more than 11 kilograms of fentanil were hidden under their feet, which caused the death of a child and the poisoning of others.”

According to the complaint, the accusation and other documents, from June 2022 to September 2023, Méndez and others conspired to distribute narcotics of the divine child nursery in the Bronx.

The authorities said Méndez and his conspirators maintained more than 11 kilograms of fentanyl and heroin in secret compartments, or traps, located under the floor tiles in the game room of the nursery.

The outlet reported that Dominici began to cry in the courtroom when the prosecutors recalled the final moments of his son.

When he was asked to address the court, Happy Otoniel, Dominici’s husband said: “He let my only son die. He did nothing.”

“We not only lost Nicholas. We lost our life,” Happy added.

The outlet reported that Méndez told the court that “it was never my intention” for him Children to be poisoned.

“I want everyone to know that it was an accident,” said Méndez, while using a Spanish interpreter.

Then he affirmed “knowing the suffering” that the Dominici felt, since she is a mother and is being locked up of four children.

“Believe me, this has left me traumatized,” Méndez said. “I can’t erase this from my mind.”

One of the conspirators, Méndez’s husband, Felix Herrera García, was arrested in September 2023 in Sinaloa, where Sinaloa Drug Trafficking Poster from Mexicoeleven run by Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, Is Based.

The other arrested conspirators included Renny Antonio Parra Paredes, 38, also known as “El Gallo”, and the neighbor of Méndez, Carlisto Acevedo Brito, who were accused of conspiracy to distribute narcotics that resulted in death.

Brito, like Méndez, was also accused of Narcotics distribution resulting in death.

“No punishment can compensate for a lost child, but today’s sentence sends the message that this office and our police members will work tirelessly to bring to justice anyone who uses children as a shield in drug trafficking,” said Podolsky.
