Seven injured after the South Korean combat plane accidentally falls

Seven people in South Korea were injured, four of them seriously, after a combat plane accidentally fell eight bombs in a civil district during a military exercise of living fire.

The incident that involved the KF-16 aircraft aircraft of the Air Force took place around 10:04 local time (01:04 GMT) in the city of Pocheon, near the border with North Korea.

Yang UK, a military expert and researcher at the ASAN Institute for Policy Studies, told the BBC that if the bombs do not explode if “they drop at an altitude lower than the planned.”

A building and church houses were also damaged as a result of the incident.

The images published in the local media show a broken window of a building and a damaged roof of the church.

A local resident told Yonhap that he had been watching television at home when the explosion, which sounded “like thunder,” he shook the house.

The director of a Center for Care of nearby people said that the windows of the building broke and that one of his teachers was taken to the hospital with injuries. While the elderly were not injured, they said: “They were so scared that we send them all home.”

The Ministry of Defense said the training on Thursday was related to a joint simulation with US forces.

South Korea and the United States will execute combined exercises from March 10 to 20, the first from the return of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to the White House. This comes at a time when the two countries increasingly distrust the growing alliance between North Korea and Russia.
